InUrSkn is more than just a skin a hair and body clinic. It is Dr. Sejal's promise of providing minimal intervention patient care which is holistic, personalized and humane.
Cryolipolysis is the procedure in which a cryo machine is used to cool the adipose tissue containing fat cells to a sub zero temperature. AS a result of this cooling the fat cells are destroyed and start being discarded by the body through its lymphatic system over the next 4 to 8 weeks.
Cryolipolysis is known by many names like coolsculpting, fat freezing, cryo freezing etc. All of these procedure work on the same principle and equally effective for fat reduction.
Fat Loss treatments like these are also called inch loss treatments. It is necessary to understand that these are not weight loss treatments.
Cryolipolysis or coolsculpting is for patients who have stubborn pinchable fat. This fat is called subcutaneous fat (fat that lies under the skin). Coolsculpting or cryolipolysis is not suitable for visceral fat (muscle fat) reduction.
The different body areas for which cryolipolysis or fat freezing is suitable is as follows:
We follow the below steps for cryo fat reduction at InUrSkn:
1. After a detailed discussion with Dr. Sejal, the exact treatment areas are determined.
2. After this an aesthetician takes your body measurements, especially of the fat with a calliper.
3. The area to be treated is cleaned.
4. An antifreeze film is placed on the treatment areas.
5. The cryolipolysis machine is set to the correct setting for pressure and temperature.
6. The cryo probes are placed on the treatment area and the machine is started.
7. On start there is a feeling of intense suction and cooling which subsides in the next minute or so.
8. The machine rapidly cools the temperature of the target area while maintaining a vacuum pressure on the area.
9. The entire procedure takes between 30 and 45 minutes based on the area being treated.
10. On completion the probe is removed and the area being treated is cleaned.
It is also important to have correct expectations from the procedure. This procedure is not a replacement for healthy lifestyle choices like exercising and eating healthy. Also this procedure does not aid in weight loss, it aids only fat loss or inch loss.
One should ideally have at least 1 inch of fat (as measured with fat callipers) for cryolipolysis treatment.
The patients needs to take the below precautions when it comes to cryolipolysis:
– The patients should not carry out intense exercise on the day of the treatment and for one week after the treatment.
– For a week after the treatment the treated area should not be subject to massages and heating like saunas and steam treatments,
– Avoid any direct sun exposure of the treated area for 48 hours.
Immediately after the procedure the treated area feels hardened and look whitish. This is the desired outcome of the procedure as the fat is crystalized and feels hard.
Over the next two to three hours this hardness reduces and the skin may develop slight redness and look a bit raised, which settles over the next few weeks automatically. There may also be a dulling of sensation in the treated area.
The body starts disposing of the destroyed fat cells through its lymphatic system over the next 4 to 8 weeks and the patient can expect to see a reduction in subcutaneous fat over the next 3 to 6 months.
One can expect a 20 to 25% reduction in fat in the treated area after one session.
For optimum results a patient may need 2 to 3 sessions of treatments placed 1 month apart.
When the fat freezing probe is kept in contact with the surface of the skin (through a protective layer) the probe starts reducing the temperature of the area under it to sub zero temperatures.
As fat cells are more affected by cold temperatures and get damaged much faster at colder temperatures, only these cells are affected during the treatment leaving the surrounding cells of skin, muscles etc. intact.
As the fat cells get damaged, these are cleared from the body by our lymphatic system. The lymphatic system of the body is the system responsible for removal of waste from cells. This process of disposal takes multiple weeks to get rid of all the damaged fat cells and lipids, leading to a gradual but definite fat loss.

Fat freezing or cryo freezing procedures are non invasive in nature and also localized and hence have limited chances of adverse reactions.
Immediately after the treatment the patient may feel that the treated area has turned hard and whitish (as the fat is crystalized) This is the desired outcome of the treatment.
One may experience a mild redness, soreness and swelling of the area for a period of up to four weeks. This may also be accompanied by a reduction in sensation in the treated area. But the same resolves by itself.
Other complications associated with cryo fat reduction techniques are very rare and not normally encountered.
Yes. The results of cryolipolysis is permanent, provided that one follows a regular diet and does not depend on cryolipolysis alone for fat loss. Any negative changes in diet like eating excessive fatty foods or high calorie foods adversely affects the cryo lipolysis results.
Liposuction works by surgically removing the subcutaneous fats and is a more drastic and dangerous procedure. Cryolipolysis is a non invasive procedure that is extremely safe but is slower than liposuction.
The procedure can be repeated at a minimum interval of 1 month. Dr. Sejal recommends a wait of upto 1.5 months in some cases.
One can carry out multiple treatments spaced 1 month apart, as long as there is adequate fat in the area being treated.
One may need 2 to 3 treatments based on their specific condition and needs.
Coolsculpting has universal appeal, but certain people should not engage in it:
1. People with visceral fat and not subcutaneous fat
2. People who are unwilling to wait 4 months for results and expect immediate results
3. People who have lax or loose skin.
4. People who do not have a minimum of 1 inch of subcutaneous fat
Cryo Fat Freezing therapy is for the purpose of reducing subcutaneous fat. It has practically no effect on the body weight of individuals. This is because fat is extremely volumetric and bulky as compared to muscles. That is fat takes up a lot of space but weighs very little. So even if a lot of fat is eliminated you will see a substantial reduction in size (inch loss) but not adequate reduction in body weight.
Cryolipolysis specifically targets fat cells by freezing them, while other treatments may use heat or ultrasound. The choice depends on individual needs and doctor’s recommendation.
Avoid taking anti-inflammatory drugs or supplements that can increase the risk of bruising, and hydrate well before the treatment.
