InUrSkn is more than just a skin a hair and body clinic. It is Dr. Sejal's promise of providing minimal intervention patient care which is holistic, personalized and humane.
Thread lifts are a minimally invasive way of reducing signs of ageing like sagging skin, wrinkles, folds and lines. It involves insertion of biodegradable threads (thin filaments that dissolve inside your body) and creating a gentle pull on the lax skin with the help of these threads.
A thread lift procedure uses cannula (type of a thin injection like tube ) to deliver these threads inside the skin such that there is no surgery involved, reducing any possible complications and increasing safety.
Patients who need to make minor adjustments to their facial contour such that it alters their look appropriate to their expectations can choose to undergo a dermal filler treatment for a near instant outcome.
Dermal Fillers are one of the most effective and almost instant treatment that is used for treating a variety of age related skin concerns like below:
Medical threads for facelift, also known as thread lifts, work on the principle of providing mechanical support and lift to the facial tissues. These threads are made of biocompatible materials, such as polydioxanone (PDO) or polylactic acid (PLA), which are commonly used in medical sutures. The working principle of medical threads involves two main mechanisms:
Support and Suspension: The threads are inserted into the skin through small incisions or entry points. They have tiny barbs, cones, or sutures along their length. These barbs or cones grab hold of the underlying facial tissues, allowing the threads to be anchored. By gently pulling and repositioning the skin, the threads provide support and lift to sagging or loose facial areas.
Collagen Stimulation: The threads also stimulate collagen production in the treated areas. The insertion of the threads triggers a healing response, prompting the body to produce new collagen fibers around the threads. Over time, this collagen production helps improve skin firmness and elasticity, further enhancing the lifting effect.
While Dr. Sejal will examine and explain the exact thread to be used for your particular condition. Here are the general guidelines for thread selection:
If used for Facial Rejuvenation:
In this case smooth threads are used, which provide very gentle lift and primarily aid in collagen synthesis and improvement of skin health. These are also called mon threads.
If uses for creating a Lift:
In this case threads with barbs are used. Barbs are small projections from the threads that attach themselves into the soft tissue, such that when the threads are pulled back by the physician, the threads create a lift on the skin as well.
If used for substituting volume loss:
In this case screw type threads are used which have intertwined threads and provide volume restoration in sunken areas.
Also threads are made from various biocompatible materials like:
a. Polydioxanone (PDO) Thread
b. Polylactic Acid (PLA) Thread
c. Polycaprolactone (PCA) Thread
Each Material has its own advantages and the selection should be left to the treating physician.
The following steps are typically followed in a thread lift procedure:
a. A topical anesthetic is applied to the area to be treated.
b. An injectable local anesthetic maybe given to reduce any discomfort.
c. Threads are inserted into the skin using cannulas (thin injection like tubes)
d. The threads maybe anchored under the skin in the upper half of the face.
e. Post procedure certain anti-inflammatories may be prescribed to take care of the localized swelling if any.
Probably the best thing about this procedure is that there is virtually no down time. However similar to any skin procedure, it is advisable to take a few precautions like:
Before:
– Ensure that there is no infection or injury on the face or site of treatment
– Ensure that you do not undergo any unwanted facial aesthetic treatment for 2 to 3 days before the procedure.
– Avoid using any makeup or skin care products for 2 to 3 days before the procedure.
After:
– Ensure that you do now chew food vigorously, which can displace the thread
– If there is any lumpiness that you observe in the treated area, do not massage or press the area. Report the same to your doctor immediately, who is trained to handle this lumpiness.
– Strictly avoid steam, sauna, facial massages for 7 days after procedure.
– Strictly avoid strenuous exercises for 24 hours after the procedure.
– Bruises may occur at the site of injection, which will settle in 5 to 7 days by itself.
– Do not apply any serums or creams for two days after the procedure.
– Do not use a face wash or soap on face for 24 hours after the procedure.
– Avoid any other form of salon procedures like facials, skin bleaching etc. for a week after your procedure.
You can expect immediate results from the thread lift. The results to improve over the next 4 to 12 weeks as the skin effectively generates more collagen and elastin and better adapts to the presence of the thread.

Threads are largely safe with the most common side effects being redness or mild swelling near the sire of treatment. However in rare cases there can be an infection or the thread shifting and not giving the desired result or of a subcutaneous injury. In almost all these cases such effects are reversible with no permanent damage.
Thread lift results last between 9 months and 18 months depending on the desired results.
The procedure can be repeated after 18 months to maintain optimum results.
Dermal Fillers have a more versatile use than facial threads. While threads are mainly used for lifting, dermal fillers are recommended for a variety of indications from contouring to volume addition and so on. Also dermal fillers are done more quickly and cause very less discomfort. Also dermal fillers have zero down time, while after thread lifts one must be careful for up to a week. Lastly dermal fillers are more expensive while threads are more affordable.

Immediately after the procedure, it’s important to keep the skin clean and avoid applying makeup. One should also avoid strenuous activities and excessive facial movements to allow the threads to settle.
Most patients can return to their daily routine almost immediately, but it is advisable to avoid strenuous physical activity for the first 24 hours.
As aging continues, the longevity of thread lift results may vary. Factors like skin elasticity and individual lifestyle can affect how long the lifted appearance is maintained.
Yes, thread lifts can be combined with other treatments such as fillers or laser therapy for a more comprehensive anti-aging strategy, as advised by your physician.
Thread lifts are versatile but may not be suitable for all areas. Commonly treated areas include the cheeks, jawline, and neck.
Yes, thread lifts are suitable for both men and women looking to reduce the appearance of aging and improve facial contours.
