An Oxygen facial (also called CO2 facial) works towards improving the metabolism of skin cells and increasing the collagen levels in your skin by a phenomenon called Bohr’s effect. This is the phenomenon in which by generating CO2 on the outer layer of skin, there is an increase in the O2 levels in the deeper layers of the skin. The increase in oxygen improves cell growth and cell biosynthesis leading to a better, younger looking skin.
If you are concerned about the texture of your skin or its elasticity and have any of the below conditions, Oxygen Facial may be suitable for you.
If you are concerned about skin pigmentation and darkening and have any of the below conditions, Oxygen Facial may be suitable for you.
If you are concerned about signs of ageing showing on your face and have any of the below conditions, Oxygen Facial may be suitable for you.
Patients with active acne or acne scars also benefit from an oxygen facial, as the facial works towards improving teh cell metabolism in addition to cleansing teh surface of the skin.
The most common reasons why patients seek full body skin rejuvenation are:
1. Chronic Generalized (wide spread) dry and dull skin
2. Generalized spread of marks and spots on large parts of the body like back etc. because of acne and other conditions.
3. Generalized darkening of skin or tanning because of sun exposure
4. Need for improving the overall texture and elasticity of the skin.
An oxygen facial is often referred to as a three in one facial.
1. The first step is to gently exfoliate the dead skin cells and any build up of sebum, dirt and sweat on the skin.
2. This is followed by a process in which by a reaction between the probe and the serum a high amount of carbon dioxide is produced on the surface of the skin. Leading to a process in which the deeper layers of the skin are able to get more oxygen from the blood.
3. The third step involves using an RF probe to infuse the applied serum into the deeper layers of the skin.
The combined effect of these three steps is what leads to a glowing, healthier skin.
The following steps are typically followed in a oxygen facial:
1. The face is cleansed with a gentle cleanser by the aesthetician.
2. This is followed by application of one of the two serums as advised by Dr. Sejal:
a. Either a hydrating serum
b. Or a brightening (anti-oxidant) serum
3. Then a single use capsule which has bi-carbonate crystals is attached to the oxygenation probe.
4. This probe is then gently passed over the skin where the bi-carbonate crystals do two things:
a. They gently exfoliate the skin and and sebum or dirt.
b. They react with the serum used on the skin to create a vast amount of carbon dioxide on the skin in the form of miniature bubbles.
5. This is finally followed by a gentle massage of the skin with a RF probe that helps in the absorption of the serum into the deeper layers of the skin.
6. The skin is finally cleansed with a gentle cleanser and a soothing face mask is applied.
7. The final step is to apply a moisturizer and sunscreen to ensure that treated area is protected from the environment and sun damage.
Probably the best thing about this procedure is that there is virtually no down time. However similar to any skin procedure, it is advisable to take a few precautions like:
Avoid direct sun exposure for 2 days.
Wear a broad spectrum sunscreen.
Use a moisturiser.
Use a mild face wash.
Do not scrub or rub your skin.
Do not apply makeup for 24 hours.
Do not wax, thread or bleach for 7 to 10 days
Do not undergo any salon or spa procedure for upto 72 hours.
An oxygen facial tends to improve the cell turnover by means of exfoliation and improving the blood flow to the treated area. Hence one can expect the face to feel fresher and more supple after the procedure. In addition based on the serum chosen, either hydration or antioxidant one can expect an improvement in the mositure levels in the skin or a reduction in patchiness and pigmentation of skin.

The procedure is safe for almost all people. But since it uses both physical exfoliation and also serum infusion some people may experience mild redness and swelling, which tends to subside in 2 to 3 hours.
Oxygen Facial is an additive process, which means that as one keeps undergoing the procedure along with application of topical medications and serums at home, the more improvement in the condition of the skin becomes visible. However it is important to understand that exposure to environment and bad lifestyle choices can hamper the recovery of your skin and reverse the positive effects of any skin rejuvenation procedure.
This is an absolute myth. There is no degradation in the condition of your skin in case one stops any skin rejuvenation treatment.
Dr. Sejal recommends that an oxygen facial can be repeated if desired with a gap of at least 30 days.
Since this is a localized treatment, this is very safe for both lactating mothers and pregnant women.
The serums used in the procedure are either hydrating serums or antioxidant serums. These are not serums that can have harmful effects on your skin like a bleach etc.
